Choose well to support NHS services this Bank Holiday

2nd May 2018

People in West Norfolk are being urged to support hard working doctors and nurses by using health services wisely over the Bank Holiday weekend.

West Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group is asking residents to consider visiting a pharmacist or calling the 111 service for minor injuries and illnesses over the long weekend to ensure they receive the right treatment quickly.

Last year, staff manning the Emergency Department at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital saw more than 200 people on the May Day Bank Holiday.

Pharmacists are able to provide a wide range of healthcare advice for minor injuries, infections, emergency contraception along with hayfever symptoms and coughs and colds.

Dr Paul Williams, Chair of West Norfolk CCG, said: “Bank Holiday is traditionally a busy time for the NHS and it is important that urgent care services are free for the people who need them most.

“We are lucky in West Norfolk to have a number of pharmacists who are open over the Bank Holiday weekend and they will be able to provide advice and treatment for a variety of minor injuries and illnesses. The 111 service is also able to provide medical advice and support.

“We are asking people to think carefully to choose the service which will best meet their needs.”
